Fayette County Launches 5-Year Comprehensive Plan Update, Invites Public to First Hearing

Fayette County, Georgia — Fayette County has begun its 5-year Comprehensive Plan Update and is calling on residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to take part in shaping the future of the county. The update will be completed in coordination with the City of Fayetteville to ensure greater consistency across shared boundaries and to reduce development conflicts.

The County is partnering with the same consultant team currently supporting the City of Fayetteville’s planning efforts. Principal staff for the City of Fayetteville involved in this process are Julie Brown, Director of Planning & Zoning, and Marissa Jackson, Senior Planner.

Although each jurisdiction will produce its own Comprehensive Plan, coordinated planning will help both groups identify appropriate land uses, shared community priorities and opportunities for complementary development. Each jurisdiction will form its own Steering Committee and Stakeholder Groups; however, a select number of individuals will serve jointly on both to support unified decision-making. The County and City will also host separate public meetings alongside a series of joint community engagement events.

Fayette County will hold its initial public hearing on September 24, 2026, to brief residents on the planning process, outline opportunities for public involvement and receive early input from the community.

The public hearing will be held before the Fayette County Board of Commissioners at 5 PM in the Fayette County Administrative Complex, 140 Stonewall Avenue West, Public Meeting Room, First Floor, Fayetteville, Georgia.

“The Comprehensive Plan Update is our chance to thoughtfully respond to the changes shaping our county. This plan defines our long‑term vision, guides growth and development decisions, and protects the qualities that make our community unique. To ensure the plan reflects what matters most to residents and businesses, public input is essential,” Deborah L. Bell Director, Fayette County Planning & Zoning.

Residents across Fayette County and the City of Fayetteville are encouraged to attend, learn about the process and share their perspectives. Community participation will play a critical role in creating a plan that reflects shared goals and supports thoughtful, coordinated growth.
