Annual Evaluation: 2015 Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan
FAYETTE COUNTY, GA - Fayette County completed its annual review of projects listed in the 2015 Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan, approved by all county jurisdictions in 2015, was updated on June 28, 2019, to support a FEMA mitigation grant that brought the Margaret Phillips Lake Dam, a Category 1 dam, into compliance with Georgia Safe Dam Standards. The update replaced an earlier proposal to breach the dam.
County officials say the latest review shows significant progress on projects outlined in the plan.
Project Status
All action steps in the unincorporated county were evaluated, and several were updated to reflect current conditions. Completed projects include:
- West McIntosh Road Bridge Replacement (2018)
- Emerald Lake Dam (August 2018)
- Antebellum Way (February 2019)
- Rising Star Road (September 2018)
- Silver Leaf Drive (April 2022)
- Lawson Lane (2016)
- Oak Street (June 2019)
- Morning Dove Drive (March 2020)
- Dogwood Trail (August 2020)
- Darren Drive (August 2026)
Projects still in progress include Callaway Road (design phase), Camp Creek at Redwine, and Roberts Road.

Summary
Fayette County participates in FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System. The county currently holds a Class 5 rating, earned by conducting activities that exceed minimum program requirements. The annual review of the Hazard Mitigation Plan contributes to this rating.
As a result, residents receive a 25 percent discount on flood insurance premiums.
