Fayette County Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting for Award-Winning Starr’s Mill Tunnel Project

FAYETTE COUNTY, GA - Fayette County and Peachtree City had a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Starr’s Mill Tunnel and Path Project on May 14. The tunnel project recently was awarded the prestigious APWA Georgia Chapter Project of the Year.

Open in July 2025, this project marks a significant leap forward in local safety and infrastructure, providing a seamless connection for local schools and neighborhoods.

The new tunnel and path system provide a safe, grade-separated crossing for pedestrians, bicyclists, and golf cart users. The project ensures that students and residents can access Peeples Elementary, Rising Starr Middle, and Starr's Mill High School without the risks associated with crossing high-volume vehicular traffic.

The tunnel project (17TAI) is funded with Fayette County’s 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program. Please visit the SPLOST website for more information.
