Well Water Testing

The Health Department tests well water for coliform bacteria.

Water Samples can either be brought in to the office for testing or a member of the staff can obtain a sample from the well.

If the sample is to be brought in, it must be in a sterilized container. Both the container and lid must be boiled for 15 minutes and the sample taking without touching inside the bottle or lid.

Water samples take 24 hours to run and cannot be taken on Friday or the day before a holiday. The test costs $60 whether you bring in a sample or the Health Department takes the sample. If the test comes back positive for bacteria, the well must be chlorinated.
