Floodplain Management / Flood Insurance

Fayette County participates in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) National Flood Insurance Program , which ensures that federally backed flood insurance is available for all buildings within the County, whether they are in a floodplain or not.

In addition, Fayette County participates in FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS). This is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum National Flood Insurance Program requirements. As a result, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS: (1) reduce flood losses; (2) facilitate accurate insurance rating; and (3) promote the awareness of flood insurance.

Additional information is available at the FEMA CRS web site.

Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and the Flood Insurance Study for Fayette County are available for review in the Fayette County’s Stormwater Management Office.

Additional information is available at the Fayette County library , in the County’s handout on Flood Insurance Purchase Requirements *, or by contacting the Stormwater Management Department at 770-305-5410.
