The Animal Shelter services include pet adoption, assistance for homeless, injured, abused and vicious animals; while keeping public safety as our number one priority. Our officers are here to pick up strays, investigate animal abuse, help find your lost pet, and assist with emergencies (i.e. vicious animals, in-home wildlife removal and hazards)
The primary responsibility of the Tax Assessors is to appraise property at fair market value. The Tax Assessors' Office is responsible for the valuation of property.
The Building Permits & Inspections Department is responsible for issuing permits in unincorporated Fayette County as well as the towns of Brooks and Woolsey.
Services include:
Permitting - Includes the collection of fees, processing of requests for permits and inspections, and providing information to the public.
Plans examination - Includes the review of plans and related construction documents for minimum code compliance prior to permit issuance.
Inspection - Includes verification that structures are built in accordance with the approved plans, minimum construction codes and within the scope of the permit.
The Clerk of Courts and Deputy Clerks are custodians over the land and property records of the county as well as the civil and criminal files and records in the courts served.
The Magistrate Court is responsible for civil garnishments, lawsuits under $15,000, landlord/tenant dispossessory,abandoned motor vehicles and personal property foreclosures, criminal warrants and wedding ceremonies.

The Solicitor-General's Office is the State Court Prosecutor for cases involving domestic violence, teen driving laws, victim assistance. The Solicitor General is responsible for the prosecution of all traffic, misdemeanor, and ordinance violation cases in the State Court. Some of the most common offenses handled include crimes of domestic violence, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and thefts involving property or services valued at less than $500 ($300 in the case of shoplifting).
The Engineering Department implements and enforces Development Regulations and Subdivision Regulations, which are used to regulate all commercial development and subdivision construction in the unincorporated areas of Fayette County.
The Marshal's Office enforces county ordinances, zoning ordinances, sign regulations, building codes, dumping / littering regulations, beer and wine ordinances and business license regulations.
Additional responsibilities include the enforcement of:
Boating safety regulations on county reservoirs along with the enforcement of hunting, fishing, conservation and wildlife management.
Department of Transportation regulations on county roads and bridges. This includes the weighing of trucks and the inspection of trucks for safety violations.
Safety precautions on county-owned property which ensures the safety of the public when visiting county facilities whether a park, lake, recreation facility or business office.
The Marshal's Office conducts the Georgia Hunter Safety Education course
