The Public Works Department provides leadership and administrative support for several departments:

• Road
• Fleet Maintenance

Public Works' duties involve a variety of items, including:

• Pothole complaints
• New driveway permits and culvert inspections
• Sign requests
• Street repaving requests/priority list
• Right of way mowing, tree/bush trimming
• Drainage problems/complaints; stopped up pipe/catch basins
• Paving of dirt roads
• Dirt road maintenance
• Traffic problems/discussion
• Road kill (dog and deer) pickup
• Development of subdivisions/roadway inspections

Public Works also handles funding applications to the Georgia Department of Transportation for new road projects and resurfacing Fayette County’s roads.

Public Works works with the DOT on intersection improvements, which include traffic signs, and new turn lane requests.
