“Fayette on the Page 2009” – What If All of Fayette County Read the Same Book?
Fayette County Public Library announces the second annual “Fayette on the Page,” a “One Book, One Community” initiative. “Fayette on the Page” is a countywide reading and discussion program that encourages all Fayette County residents to read the same book at the same time, and then participate in related cultural, educational and recreational activities. At the center of this year’s program is the 1993 novel “A Lesson Before Dying,” by Louisiana author Ernest J. Gaines.

FOR TEENS: Summer Reading Events: This summer, it’s all about reading. Join our summer reading program and win cool prizes like journals, games, magnets, and “Get Out of Fine Free” cards. Read enough books and you can enter the contest for the Grand Prize—a Nintendo Wii. Stop by the library to pick up your Summer Reading BINGO card and you’ll be on your way.
TEEN EVENT: Monday @ the Movies: beginning June 8, every Monday in June and July at 3 p.m. Come join us for a free showing of a recently released movie. Free popcorn and drinks will be available. For a schedule of movies, please call 770-305-5426.
TEEN EVENT: In Style Creation: Wednesdays, June 10, June 27, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. Join us for a three part workshop session for teens who are interested in Styling and Profiling a.k.a. Fashion Design. Bring your jeans, t-shirts, or hats from your own closet and learn how to make them stylin.’ Sessions led by L.B. Lowe, fashion designer.
TEEN EVENT: My Kind of Heroine Book Discussion Group: every other Thursday at 3 p.m., starting June 11th. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts, zombies...and one extraordinary heroine that has to keep them all in line— that’s the formula for a lot of awesome books. We’re going to talk about what makes them so amazingly cool! Refreshments served at each meeting. Stop by the library or email jkuhr@fayettecountyga.gov to sign up.

TEEN EVENT: Comics Workshop: Tuesday, July 7th at 4:00 p.m.. Do you like to draw? Have you ever wondered what it takes to create a Graphic Novel or Comic Book? Want to give it a try? Here’s your chance. Session will be led by Kyle Puttkammer, educator, entertainer, creator of “Galaxy Man” and comic shop retailer for 17 years.
Small Business Workshop: “ Bookkeeping: Managing Your Books.” Thursday, July 9, 6 - 8 p.m. Presenter: Debra T. Griffin, Branch Manager of Flagstar Bank. Registration required online at http://www.sba.gov/ga Learn how to set up a modern bookkeeping system that will facilitate and simplify the management of your business. You will also be introduced to some software programs to handle your own bookkeeping. General information will be provided on the following topics: maintaining an action/business plan for your business; time management; do I utilize an accountant, bookkeeper, or simply manage my own books? Invest in yourself and your business.
Monday Morning Mystery: a new book discussion group on the second Monday of every month at 11 a.m. Join your mystery-loving librarians Jessica and Sarah and read a different mystery novel each month. Friendly, informal discussions enhance your enjoyment of what you read. There are all kinds of mysteries… and we’re ready to try them all! July 13, 11a.m. - 12 noon: “Judas Child” by Carol O’Connell.
Small Business Workshop: “Budgeting 101.” Thursday, July 23 6 - 8 p.m. Presenter: Debra T. Griffin, Branch Manager of Flagstar Bank. Registration required online at http://www.sba.gov/ga Budgeting is the process of looking at the money you get every month and making a plan for what you will do with it. Learn basic budgeting tips to help you with your business. Attendees will be asked to put together a budget at the end of the class. The following topics will be discussed: definition of a budget; parts of a budget; income and expenses; how to begin to put together a budget; revising your budget periodically.
TEEN EVENT: Yoga: Wednesday, July 29th at 5:00 p.m. It’s time to get toned. Come learn various strengthening and flexibility techniques that will increase the flow of energy and lead to a better you. Session led by dance instructor Michelle Bennett.

Can’t find time to read? Join the Library’s Online Book Clubs and start receiving chapters from popular books in your daily email. Every day, Monday through Friday, we’ll send you a portion of a book that takes only five minutes to read. During the week, you’ll have a chance to read 2 or 3 chapters, enough to know if it’s a book you want to check out from the library and finish. You can read a wide variety of books including fiction, nonfiction, romance, business, teen and mystery books. Read at home, at work, or at school. The Online Book Clubs are a free service of the library. Click on the image below and start making time for reading again.

The Fayette County Public Library:

Outstanding programming for all ages, includes:
- Story times with well-researched, age-appropriate
activities for children from birth through 4 years
- Educational Learning Lab for students in grades
K-9
- English as a Second Language courses
- Free adult computer classes for Windows, Word, Excel,
and Internet
- Free music concerts and other cultural programs
- Free adult computerized tutorial classes for Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. A teacher is present to assist students with these tutorials. Weekly class about the Internet is taught by a human. A class about email is also taught by a human on the last Tuesday of the month.
The library's goals are to serve as a role model of
excellence in customer service and information delivery for all patrons;
and to be utilized as the County's Info Source and as a center for cultural
arts for Fayette County.
The Fayette County Public Library is an affiliate of the Flint River Regional Library System.
