Greenspace Program
Senate Bill 399 created the Georgia Greenspace Program. The purpose of this legislation is to assist rapidly developing counties and their municipalities to preserve 20 percent of the their land area as permanently protected greenspace. Fayette county is eligible for this program and has elected to participate. The City of Fayetteville, the City of Peachtree City and the Town of Tyrone will participate in the program with the county.
The goal of the Fayette County greenspace program is to permanently protect approximately 25,367 acres. This permanently protected greenspace will be used to achieve to the goals outlined in Senate Bill 399.
The goals of the program are:
- Water protection
- Flood protection
- Wetlands protection
- Reduction of erosion
- Protection of riparian buffers
- Protection of archaeological and historic resources
- Provision of passive recreation
- Connection of existing or planned greenspace areas
