THE FAYETTE COUNTY RECREATION COMMISSION

The Fayette County Recreation Commission was first created in 1976 shortly after the county established its Recreation Department. The Recreation Commission is a "citizen committee" which consists of five members appointed by the County Commissioners. Recreation Commission members serve four-year terms with no term limits. Membership consists of three members who must reside within specified geographic districts that are consistent with those of County Commissioners. The remaining two seats are filled by members who reside at-large, meaning they can live anywhere in Fayette County.

The Recreation Commission is a volunteer body that reviews and evaluates programs, facilities, policies, and other matters and makes recommendations to the Recreation Department, the County Administrator and the Board of Commissioners concerning capital and operational needs. The Recreation Commission is an "advisory" body and has no decision-making authority over how county resources are spent or managed.
