
On June 23, 2004 county employees honored Bill Newman with a party at the County Administration Complex.



Board of Commissioners congratulates
Bill Newman (and B.J.) as he
retires from 24 years of service to the County.
Bill Newman was hired 24 years ago to open Fayette County’s first Animal Shelter. After 24 years of service, he will retire at the end of this month.
Before coming to Fayette County, Bill served as Director of Operations at the Atlanta Humane Society for 15 years. There he worked with U.S. Fish and Wildlife where he was trained in law enforcement in the area of animal welfare. He is considered statewide as an expert in animal care and has been called upon by officials throughout Georgia and the Southeast to assist in animal cruelty and abandonment cases.
Bill has spent his career promoting the humane treatment of animals. Bill has been instrumental in the passage of state legislation and local ordinances dealing with animal care.
He is passionate in his belief that people must make informed decisions when choosing an animal for their family and they must be responsible and serious in caring for their pet.
The Animal Shelter mascot, B.J., will be also be leaving the Shelter. He will be enjoying retirement with Bill.

In honor of Bill’s 24 years of
service, the Board of Commissioners presented
him with a rocking chair. B.J. received a new bed.

B.J. will retire from his position as
the “Animal Shelter Mascot”
and enjoy retirement with Bill.
