Flood Insurance Rates Reduced

As of May 1, 2004, citizens in Unincorporated Fayette County who need flood insurance became eligible for a 15% reduction in their rates. This reduction was based on credit points verified the by Insurance Services Office, Inc., and upon acceptance by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in which Unincorporated Fayette County, Georgia received a Community Rating System (CRS) classification of 7.
At the June 10 Fayette County Board of Commissioners’ Meeting, Collis Brown, State Flood Plain Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, presented the County officials with a plaque to honor this achievement. “This savings is a tangible result of the flood mitigation activities your community has implemented that protect lives and property”, said Mr. Brown.

Board Chairman Greg Dunn recognized Ron Salmons, Director of Leisure Services and Development, for the structuring and administering of the County’s flood plain management program.
