
At a recent Board of County Commissioners Meeting, the Commissioners presented a Resolution to the Fayette County Recreation Department in recognition and appreciation for thirty years of recreation services provided to the County.
“Since 1975 the Fayette County Recreation Department has expanded to meet the needs of a growing and changing population of Fayette County citizens, evolving into a popular and successful public service agency. The Board of Commissioners of Fayette County extend our thanks to the efforts of past County Commissioners, Recreation Department leaders and employees, athletic leagues and associations, youth organizations, untold numbers of volunteers, and others who have contributed to the success of the Fayette County Recreation Department”, said Chairman Greg Dunn.
Don Sherwin, Recreation Director from 1975 - 1982; Anna James, Recreation Director from 1982 - 1985; Ron McCurry, who McCurry Park is named after, a Kiwanis Club Member and Recreation Commissioner Member; and Anita Godbee, Recreation Director from 2002 to present, accepted the Resolution on behalf of everyone who has been and is currently involved with the Recreation Department.
