Improvements on the Way for Intersection

Early next year drivers should see improvements to the intersection of State Highway 54 East and McElroy Road. The Board of Commissioners recently finalized an agreement with GaDOT to install turn lanes and a traffic signal at the intersection. Turn lanes will be placed on Highway 54 for drivers from both directions who wish to turn onto McElroy Road. Also, for drivers exiting McElroy Road onto Highway 54, both right and left turn lanes will be added. The addition of a traffic signal will complete the project.

Construction of the long-awaited improvements is planned to begin in September and should be completed in early Spring, 2007.

ATTENTION WATER CUSTOMERS:  WATER RESTRICTIONS INCREASED

DROUGHT DECLARED BY STATE OFFICIALS

The Director of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has declared a level one drought across the state and will require all Georgians to follow a more stringent water use schedule. The drought was declared after a June 21 meeting of the State Drought Response Committee, a group composed of representatives of local, state, and federal agencies and non-government organizations.

A level one drought declaration automatically imposes stiffer restrictions on outdoor water use than the standard non-drought watering provisions. The following is the level one drought schedule for outdoor watering used statewide under these conditions. These restrictions are effective immediately and will remain in place until the State of Georgia EPD declares the drought to be over.

  • If you have an odd-numbered address, you may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 12 midnight to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. until 12 midnight.
  • If you have an even-numbered address, you may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 12 midnight to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. until 12 midnight.

More information about the outdoor water use schedules can be found on the EPD web site at www.gaepd.org. Detailed information on the drought can be found at www.georgiadrought.org
