Severe Weather Season Starts Early in Fayette

On January 2, 2006, northwest Fayette County experienced a strong F-2 tornado that caused nearly $2,000,000 in damage. Many homes were damaged from the 150 plus mph winds. Incredibly, no one was injured as many sought shelter in the basement of their homes. Those that did not have a basement gathered in the center of their homes in an effort to protect themselves from the intense wind. As we enter severe weather season (February- June) the Department would like to encourage all citizens to purchase a NOAA severe weather radio in an effort to better protect themselves from severe weather. Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia starts February 19 th. Are you prepared?

A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) severe weather radio that can be purchased at most department stores is essential for advanced notice of severe weather watches and warnings.
