Census Proclamation *
April 1st is Census Day, the twenty-third since adoption of the U. S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. The Constitution calls for a census every ten years to assist in equally apportioning representation in Congress and to determine budgetary requirements, amongst other purposes.
For the 2010 Census, all questionnaires will be short forms with just ten questions. Forms should be received in the mail in mid-March. Complete the Census questionnaire on April 1 and return by mail.
Fayette County had the highest return rates amongst Georgia counties for the 1990 and 2000 Census (76% and 79%). Do your part and let’s “Keep Fayette First!”
Fayette County Commission Chairman Jack R. Smith presented the Fayette County Complete Count Committee with a proclamation recognizing April 1 as Census 2010 Day in Fayette County. Noting that Fayette County was the top county in the state in mail return rates in the 1990 and 2000 Census, the proclamation encourages all citizens to “Keep Fayette First” by completing and returning the questionnaire without delay.
