Closure of Railroad Grade Crossing on Sandycreek Road – Monday, March 26, 2007

CSX Railroad has just notified the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office that it will be closing the Railroad Grade Crossing on Sandycreek Road, between Ellison Road and Coastline Road, on Monday, March 26, 2007, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m..  Road closure signs should be placed today by the Fayette County Public Works Department.

This closure will require a detour around the Railroad Grade Crossing.  The suggested detour route is Sandycreek Road to Ellision Road to Jenkins Road to Georgia Highway 74.  Please be aware that Jenkins Road passes several schools and pedestrian traffic is more common than on Sandycreek Road.  The Traffic Enforcement Division will be heavily patrolling the detour route during school hours to ensure that safety is not compromised.

Early Registration for Summer Camps

The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department will hold early registration for ONE DAY ONLY for Summer Camps. Registration will be held on March 31st from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Activities House on Redwine Road. Early registrations for these camps are encouraged! .

Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan

In accordance with the Minimum Planning Standards and Procedures promulgated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Fayette County has updated its Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.  The plan includes the Town of Brooks, City of Fayetteville, The City of Peachtree City, the Town of Tyrone and the Town of Woolsey. 

A draft version of the document is available for public comment on this website.  A Public Hearing to discuss the draft document is scheduled for March 22, 2007.

Deputy Chief Bartlett Completes Executive Fire Officers Program

The U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy announced today that Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Chief Thomas Bartlett has successfully completed the Executive Fire Officers Program.“This intensive program is designed to provide senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire administration,” according to U.S. Fire Administrator R. David Paulison. “This program provides fire service officers with the expertise they need to succeed in today’s challenging environment.”

9-1-1 DAY IN GEORGIA

March 8, 2007 was 9-1-1 day in Georgia.  Governor Sonny Perdue presented a "medal of honor" and an awards certificate to 15 youngsters, one of whom was from Fayette County.

Each year the Georgia Chapter of APCO (Association of Public Safety Communications Officers) recognizes a communications officer for the job they do.  This year, we are proud to announce that Communications Operator Kelli Hutchinson has been selected by the awards committee as the Georgia APCO Communications Officer of the Year.

Board of Commissioners to hold Special Called Budget Workshops

Commissioners Statement Concerning Possible Closing of Fayette Counseling Center

The Fayette County Commissioners have received information that the Fayette Counseling Center may be faced with closing its doors on July 1, due to a change in the manner in which the Georgia Department of Human Resources will be distributing funds that pay for public mental health services in local communities throughout the state.
