
On November 15, 2006 a staff member from the World’s Gym in Fayetteville called the Fayette County 911 Communications Center. The caller reported that a member of the gym had collapsed, was unconscious and unresponsive, not breathing, and pulseless. Staff members began CPR.
The Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services responded to find that the gym member had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. He regained a pulse, following the combination of CPR and use of the gym AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
Fayette County paramedics further stabilized the gym member with advanced life support procedures and transferred him to Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s Emergency Department. After cardiac rehabilitation the gym member returned to work.
Hero Awards were presented to the rescuers by the American Heart Association and Dr. Allen McCullough, Chief of Fayette County Emergency Services and also Chairman of the Heart Association’s Emergency Cardiovascular Care.
At a Fayette County Commissioners Meeting the Board presented each rescuer with a Resolution acknowledging their willingness as Good Samaritans to respond in an emergency to help another person and to save a life.
