Fayetteville, GA - Fayette County and its Animal Control Division has a lot to celebrate amidst the heat of summer. Aside from managing well through one of the most detrimental seasons to animal welfare, the staff’s dedication has recently been acknowledged by state and regional organizations.
On June 7th 2007, Donna Evans, a Fayette County Animal Control officer with 18 years of service to Fayette County, was presented with the “Exceptional Animal Control Officer” award by the Southeastern Animal Control Association. (SACA) The Association is a governing (non-regulatory) educational agency that assists animal control organizations. The SACA was one of the first regional agencies to offer training to animal control officers in the south. The organization is responsible for hosting the annual SACA Training Conference that focuses on training skills specific to our region and awards outstanding individuals in the field of animal services.
The SACA receives countless nominations throughout the southeast for the award, however, the Association chose Officer Evans because of her ability to lead an admirable path and inspire others in the workplace and beyond in the field of animal services. “At the Fayette County Animal Shelter we take pride in our services and animals”, stated Miguel Abi-Hassen, Director of Animal Control for Fayette County. “We maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between strays and the safety of our community by having a proactive approach to what has become a perpetual problem, homeless animals. Our services include adoption and assistance to homeless, injured, abused and vicious animals; while keeping public safety as our number one priority”. Director Abi-Hassen concluded “Officer Evans exemplifies outstanding professionalism in fulfilling the services that we provide and we are all very proud of her accomplishments and being selected for this prestigious award”
The Board of Commissioners acknowledged Officer Evan’s award at their July 26th meeting.
