

On Thursday June 28, 2007 Engine 6, Medic 5, Rescue 10, Squad 4 and the Shift Commander responded with units from Spalding County and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department to a single vehicle accident on McIntosh Rd. at the Spalding County line on the bridge. Units found a small four door sedan on its side with one occupant, the driver, still inside the vehicle with seat belt still intact. Air bags had deployed. Firefighters from both Fayette and Spalding Counties were able to remove the patient quickly from the vehicle. Due to the mechanism of injury the patient was transported to a trauma center via an air ambulance. Below are photos taken from the scene of the accident. With the extent of damage to the vehicle, the driver’s use of a seatbelt and the vehicles air bags are attributed to saving this drivers life. Law enforcement authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. With the upcoming holiday Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services would like to stress the use of seatbelts and other safe driving habits.
