Fred Sisson named the Director of Fayette County Animal Services

Fayetteville, Georgia – December 12, 2009. After having served approximately five months as interim Director, Fred Sisson has been named the Director of Fayette County Animal Services. Mr. Sisson has a vast array of experience regarding the care of animals through various animal related occupations that spans 30 years. Mr. Sisson was born and raised in New York City for the first 12 years of his life and then his family moved to Decatur, Georgia. It was there that he discovered the love and passion for animals and the great outdoors! Mr. Sisson said, "Growing up in the city I had been deprived of many things that kids living in the country probably took for granted. My first dog was one that my mother gave me and was a female Labrador retriever that I named "Ginny". She became the first in a line of Labs as well as strays that I took in over a span of 50 years or so."

In 1979 after pursuing different jobs, Mr. Sisson was able to achieve his dream of working with animals by being hired as a kennel worker at the Atlanta Humane Society. Mr. Sisson worked for the Atlanta Humane Society with increasing roles and responsibilities that included the management and care and feeding operations for the Society's kennel. He supervised, trained and evaluated various employees, and handled public relation activities, and monitored and eradicated diseases in the facility. Through his many years in animal services, Mr. Sisson has had extensive training that includes attending the Emory School of Medicine and West Georgia and DeKalb colleges to further enhance his education and ability to care for animals.

In April 2004, Mr. Sisson began his career with Fayette County Animal Services as a Supervisor. Through Mr. Sisson's vast knowledge and experience in animal services, he quickly became a great asset to the animal shelter operations.

Director of Public Safety Allen McCullough, who oversees Animal Services states, "Fred's vast experience and knowledge of animal services will help Fayette County Animal Services continue to enforce animal control ordinances and most importantly the humane treatment and care of animals countywide."

Mr. Sisson's responsibility as the Director of Animal Services will include the management and day-to-day operations of the Fayette County Animal Shelter, the enforcement of local, state and federal codes and ordinances as they relate to animal care and humane treatment of animals; pet adoption, oversight of the staff, budget, and public education.

Mr. Sisson is married to a former Atlanta Humane Society volunteer who also shares his passion and love for animals. He lives in Fayette County and has two children, and yes his pets.
