Fayette County to Participate in Severe Weather Awareness Week
February 3-9

The Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services in partnership with the National Weather Service and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency would like to inform all residents that February 3-9 is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia. During this week Fayette County residents should take the time to discuss with their families (especially children) the importance of preparing for severe weather. Fayette County Public Safety Wins 2007 Public Safety Games

The Public Safety Games is an annual event held by the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department. The games are comprised of the public safety agencies within the county. This year’s competition included four teams; Fayette County Public Safety (Fire Department, 911, and Animal Control), Peachtree City and Fayetteville Fire Departments, and Peachtree City Police Department.

Benevolent Society Host First Annual Pool Tournament

On Saturday August 5, 2007, the Fayette County Benevolent Society held its first annual Pool Tournament. The benefit was held at the Classic Cue in Fayetteville. Seventeen participants entered the tournament, which included three league players with exceptional skills. The monies raised from the tournament will go towards a flower fund and for assistance outside the organization. The Benevolent Society is comprised of members of Fire and Emergency Services, the Sheriff’s Department, and 911.

Fayette County Animal Control Officer Wins Award

Fayetteville, GA - Fayette County and its Animal Control Division has a lot to celebrate amidst the heat of summer.  Aside from managing well through one of the most detrimental seasons to animal welfare, the staff’s dedication has recently been acknowledged by state and regional organizations. 

On June 7th 2007, Donna Evans, a Fayette County Animal Control officer with 18 years of service to Fayette County, was presented with the “Exceptional Animal Control Officer” award by the Southeastern Animal Control Association.

Fire Department Promotes New Officers

On Thursday July 26th two new officers were sworn in by Commission Chairman Jack Smith. Randy Hitch was promoted to the position of Operations Captain. Captain Hitch is assigned at station 3 in Tyrone. Captain Hitch is a 13 year veteran with Fire and Emergency Services. Jason Crenshaw was promoted to the position of Operations Lieutenant. Lieutenant Crenshaw is assigned to station 6 in Brooks. Lieutenant Crenshaw is an 8 year veteran with Fire and Emergency Services. The swearing in ceremony took place at the commission meeting in the public meeting room.

Department Adds Quint 8 and Quint 10 Fire Apparatus

Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services has placed into service one of two new fire apparatus known as Quints.  Quint 8 (currently in service) and Quint 10 (scheduled to be in-service within two weeks) will be stationed at Fire Station No. 8 located on Flat Creek Trail and Fire Station No. 10 on Seay Road.  The Quint fire apparatus were approved last year in the 2006 Vehicle Replacement Schedule of the budget process along with the approval of the position for Fire Apparatus Operator, to serve as the Quint engineer in driving operations, hydraulic water pumping, and in aerial ladder operation.

Fire Apparatus Officer Classes

Recently the Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services Training division held three Fire Apparatus Officer Classes. This course is designed for the firefighter who wishes to advance to the next level of his/her profession. The class is 40 hours and consists of six modules: Preventive Maintenance, Test and Inspections, Driving/Operating, Water Supply, Stand Pipes, and Operations. At the end of the class students must take and pass an exam administered by the Georgia Standards and Training Division.

Units Respond to Morning Accident

On Thursday June 28, 2007 Engine 6, Medic 5, Rescue 10, Squad 4 and the Shift Commander responded with units from Spalding County and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department to a single vehicle accident on McIntosh Rd. at the Spalding County line on the bridge.

Fayette County Fireworks

It is 2:00 a.m. the morning after the 4th of July. You are awakened by a strange noise and light in your backyard. You peer out the bedroom window only to see flames burning the underbrush and trees in the yard and the fire is approaching your home. The neighbors behind your residence had a large illegal fireworks display and stray fireworks must have smoldered through the night and has started a large brush fire that is threatening your home and your neighborhood. That scenario is exactly what Fayette County Public Safety officials are trying to avoid.

This year due to the drought conditions and the potential for brush and wild land fires Fayette County Public Safety officials are working together proactively to prevent brush and wild land fires

Fayette Councy Emergency Services Personnel Receive Local, Regional and National Awards

Several members of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services have been the recipients of awards from local, regional and national organizations.  Captain Steve Folden, the department’s EMS Educator and Training Officer was recognized as the 2006 Firefighter/Paramedic of the Year by Fayetteville’s American Legion Post # 105. Chief Jack J. Krakeel, Director of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services has been selected as the national recipient of the 2006 James O. Page Award given annually by the Emergency Medical Services Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and co-sponsored by Medtronic Corporation.
