The Engineering Department provides technical services that assist the community and other Departments within the County Government.  The Department's primary function is to implement and enforce the Development Regulations and Subdivision Regulations, which are used to regulate all commercial development and subdivision construction in the unincorporated areas of Fayette County.  This objective is accomplished through:

Plan Review and Permitting

The Engineering Department issues Land Disturbance Permits and Flood Elevation Certificates. The Department reviews and/or comments on:

Field Inspection and Enforcement

Environmental technicians inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and development regulations in which the Department has jurisdiction. The Technicians work closely with builders and developers within the County and strive for uniform and consistent enforcement of the regulations.

Program Administration

The Engineering Department administers several Federal, State, and local programs, including:

  1. National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II General Permit for Storm Water Discharges Associated with Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s)
  2. Floodplain Management/Flood Insurance
  3. Metropolitan North Georgia District-Wide Watershed Management Plan
  4. Solid Waste Management – County Landfill and Transfer Station
  5. Street Lights
  6. Stormwater Public Education and Outreach *
