Robert Horgan was first elected to the Post 1 seat on the Board of Commissioners on March 21, 2006, after winning a Special Election to fill the unexpired term of A.G. VanLandingham who passed away while in office. Robert was re-elected for a second term in 2008, which will expire December 31, 2012. Robert was elected from what is known as Post 1, even though County Commissioners in Fayette County are elected from voters from throughout the entire county. He was elected by his fellow Commissioners to serve as Vice Chairman in 2011.
Robert is a native of south Florida but has resided in Fayette County since 1977 when his family was transferred to this area by his father's employer, Eastern Airlines. He attended the Fayette County's Public Schools.
Robert went on to gain extensive education and experience in aviation maintenance. He has worked for several first-class aviation companies, holding top-level positions within the departments he served. However, being eager to use his skills in a business of his own, Robert has opened two locations for the "Mr. Transmission" franchise, his originally in Jonesboro but now in Fayetteville.
Robert and his wife, Sandi, live near Fayetteville with their children Alex and Dana.
Robert is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Partners in Education and the Peachtree City Rotary Club. He is an alumni of the Atlanta Regional Commission Regional Leadership Institute and holds a Certified County Commissioner designation from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and the University of Georgia.
