Ways to help
  • Do not call 911 for information.  See your phone directory for general government phone numbers.
  • Keep your telephone company informed of any changes in your name or address.  The 911 Center relies on this information.
  • Be sure your house numbers can be seen easily from the street by emergency personnel.  Post numbers on both sides of your mailbox.
  • If you dial 911 by mistake, do not hang up.  Wait until your call is answered and explain that you have misdialed.  If you hang up, the call taker will try to call you back.  If he or she is not able to reach you, a police officer will be sent to your location.
  • If you are calling from a cellular or wireless phone, your location will not be displayed at the 911 center.  You will have to give the call taker your exact location before help can be sent.
